Well, we made it back, although for a few minutes I didn’t think we were going to. We left Little Rock around 11:30 Sunday morning and stopped about an hour later for fuel, and when we went to pull into the gas station the hitch broke, and we were dragging the trailer, luckily the safety chains did their job, and nothing other than the receiver was destroyed, repairs were made and 2 hours later we were back on the road. We arrived home late, after midnight, always a joy to get up and go to work Monday morning !!!
Here’s my take on the 2007 STN’s
We arrived in Little Rock around 3:00 a.m. on Friday morning, we checked into our Motel and at that time of the morning, enjoyed the continental breakfast before we actually went to bed for a short time. We headed out to the track around 3:00 p.m. Friday was cloudy, overcast and cool, the air was really heavy and damp, and even though they had a lot of rain, they were able to get in the Thursday night show. The pits were still wet, but not that bad, I had forgotten just how much I dislike that red sticky clay.
Wayne drew for Jack, and with of draw of 70, put him about mid pack, he was 3rd row inside in the first heat race, and finished 3rd, earned some good passing points. In his qualifying race he would start 3 rd row again, but about 2 laps in, another car spun him out in turn 4 and he tagged the rear and worked back up to 8th, not enough to make the “A” Feature that night. Going into Saturday he was 45th overall out of 102 cars, so we were at least in the top half.
Saturday everyone starts over, new draw, Wayne drew 3 this time, and Jack would be pole in the 2nd heat race, where he dominated, won by almost a half of lap over the 2nd place car, he looked really fast, and we all knew we had an “A” Feature car, but in the last qualifying race, Jack started 4th row inside, and coming out of turn 2, tangled with another car and went for a wild ride, he was not hurt, but was done for the night. The car was not hurt that bad either, but it really stunk to watch it all end like that!
The car was definitely fast, thanks to the great wrenching and crewing by Crew Chief Wayne Priddy, and Jack is finally gaining the confidence he has lacked to be a force to be reckoned with. The combination was there, the LUCK was not, and at the Short Track Nationals, just like the Knoxville Nationals and the Chili Bowl, LUCK is one of the biggest factors! Now, remember this is just my opinion, and after thinking about, I even changed how I feel. At first I didn’t like the idea of having to compete with Professionals Drivers, (WOO), but after some thought, it only makes Jack that much better of a driver. I know before too long, Jack will be there running right beside them, if not out in front of them. It just takes a little time and patience, and like I said earlier a lot of LUCK! Jack competed with the very best in the Nation this past week end and 2 weeks ago at Texas, and had very respectable showings at both. Saturday night before he wrecked he was 8th in points out of 102 cars, that’s not bad!
The Jack and Wayne deal, is a great combination, they work well together, and I feel like it is a winning combination. Wayne has the knowledge we were lacking, and he knows Jack has the ability; it is just a matter of time.
I-30 Speedway has not changed since I was there last year, still a racy track in need of many improvements. The weather again, was to cold for me, although Saturday was a nice day, but it gets cold there at night. Lots of great racers there, this is the closest thing there is to the Knoxville Nationals. The racing was great, especially on Saturday. We had a really good time, the rental van was fun! Enough said!
We have decided we are not ready just yet, to pack it up for winter, so we will head south again to Texas in less than 2 weeks for the November Sprint Show at Cowtown Speedway in Kennedale, Texas for $5,000 to win show.
We have had some really good suggestions roll in for naming my new blog, send in yours for a chance to win a new Jack Dover Short Track National Hoodie. Send you suggestion along with your name and number to our email address on the website, I will choose a winner on Halloween!
As always, we had a great time seeing many of our racing friends at Little Rock and look forward to seeing them again soon, and to all of our fans who came, or listened, Thanks and we’ll see ya soon.
