Sorry for no report last week, we were at Knoxville for a 2 day show with the World of Outlaws, where on night one Jack didn't make it out of the “B”, but the next night, was able to make the “A”, but unfortunately missed his set up and would be a back runner for the entire race. We are looking forward to watching it on Speed on Father’s Day at 3:00 p.m.
Now as you know this past Friday was “Friday the 13th” and as we drove to the track we talked about the subject of being superstitious, at that point I said I really didn't believe in any of that stuff too much, but after the night was over, maybe I'm more of a believer. Jack’s luck wasn't good as he drew high and would have to start at the rear of the first heat race; he tried and made it all the way up to 3rd, but missed the chance to draw a starting position by one spot. He was really disappointed. Six drivers made the redraw and one of them took the back row challenge, so Jack would gain one position for the start of the “A”. He started 3rd row outside and was looking good until around lap 11 when he came upon Bobby Becker who had flipped in turns 3 and 4 and couldn't get the car stopped and tapped the wall and laid it on it’s side. They towed him to the work area where we put on a new top wing, and 2 new rear tires and sent him back out to tag the rear of the field as they came around for the green. It took him a few laps to settle in, and he then started his march towards the front, on lap 20 they threw the scheduled red, and Jack jumped out of the car for the 5 minute break and made some much needed adjustments. The car looked much better for the last 10 laps and Jack was able to pull off a fourth place finish, he just needed more time and better “luck”, so maybe there is something to be said for Friday the 13th. They loaded up and headed home to prepare the car for the Outlaw race at Eagle on Saturday.
Saturday, I celebrated my Birthday as well as Jack having a good run with the Outlaws. Jack timed in 10th and was had pole in the first heat race with Steve Kinser sitting right beside him. Jack jumped the start slightly, but who wouldn't with Kinser right next to you???? They sent Jack back one spot for jumping the start. His heat race was loaded with the likes of not only Kinser but Donny Schatz and Sam Hafertepe as well, he was able to finish 6th and make the transfer to the “A”. He started 12th in the “A” and looked good the entire race that ran nonstop for 40 laps. Jack would end up finishing 13th and with this group of guys that is not bad at all. I can't imagine how tiring that would be wheeling a 410 around Eagle for 40 laps. It was a great race and Craig Dollansky would collect the win for the 2nd night in a row, with Steve Kinser finishing second. Jack had many fans visit him afterwards and was quite amused that some of them thought he had his 360 in. We parked right next to the World of Outlaws trailer and they were really pleased with Jack’s performance and want us to travel to Dodge City this coming week end for a 2 day show, which if we didn't already have plans we would definitely make the trip, but Jack wants to stick to his plans of running his 360 at Knoxville for the National/Midwest ASCS show. This will be the first time that Jack has piloted a 360 on the big half mile in Knoxville.
We are anxiously awaiting the return of our Crew Chief, Wayne with an expected return date of June 19th. Jack is really excited to have him back. Wayne being gone for 3 weeks was tough, but it was good for Jack to learn some more responsibilities and most importantly believe in himself and the decisions he makes. Hopefully with what he has learned and the return of Wayne it will be an unbeatable combination.
Upcoming events would include a 2 day trip to Knoxville this coming week end for the ASCS show on Friday night and a weekly 410 on Saturday night. Then the traveling really heats up the next week with 2 trips to South Dakota, and a trip to McCool Junction, hopefully fuel prices will go down, but I think we all know that isn't going to happen. It is sad to see what this fuel crisis is doing to everything, not just racing, I hope for everyone’s sake something changes soon.
“MY” weekend observations...
Lots of really nice people who wished me a Happy Birthday...Thank you.
A good crowd of people on Saturday night for the WoO show.
A great show by the World of Outlaws.
The low car count with the World of Outlaws.
Why does Eagle get such bad ruts in its racing surface?
Don't jump the start with the World of Outlaws!
Special thanks goes out to Jimmy Grasso who spent some time with us in the pits this past week end, and was a much needed extra hand. Thanks Jimmy and good luck to you with your kart racing. Thanks to Cody and Mike for coming back Friday night and staying into the “wee” hours of the morning helping Jack change motors. Paul thanks for coming up on Saturday and being Jack’s only crew guy in the shop. Randy, as always thanks for all of your help and we hope things get better with your wet basement. Jack really appreciates all of you guys. Thanks for everything.
To Jack’s fans, you are the greatest, and we see his fan base getting bigger and bigger to the point where Jack doesn't always get to talk to everyone and for that he apologizes if he missed you on Friday or Saturday. We have had many people inquire about t –shirts and we are starting to work on that this week, the main problem with the t shirts is the $$$$$$. Any extra money we may have had for things like this have went into the fuel tank, but we are trying to get something worked out, to where hopefully in 2 to 3 weeks we should have some new shirts, as well as new hero cards as well.
As always we are always looking for new sponsors, so if you know of anyone wanting to sponsor an up and coming local driver, have them contact us please.
Again thanks to everyone for the nice birthday greetings and to all of the “Dads” out there and especially my Dad...Happy Fathers Day!
See ya at the track!
