To quite possibly forget, that would be the best way to describe this past weekend, as things just didn’t go all that well. We started out at Knoxville on Friday night for a National ASCS race, and after not being able to get the car to run in hot laps we were ready for the heat, thankfully Jack drew good, and would start outside pole in the heat race, he took the lead and never looked back, won it by well over a straight away, we were very happy and we knew this was all he needed to get in the draw, but our excitement was soon blown out the window when Jack arrived back at the trailer and told us he had been DQ’ed, we had the wrong tire on. The crew had went and purchased the correct tire, mounted them, measured them, but just failed to put them on the car. Words cannot describe how mad we all were…….Now we would tag the back of one of 3 B’s and try to work our way to front, as only 2 will transfer. Once again the night went from bad to worse as we missed the transfer by 2 spots; he started 14th in the B and made it up to 4th. Wow, what a disappointing night it was!
I thought we would escape the riddling on the message boards, but someone found it in their heart to compare us to Chuck Swenson, which I think is funny, that someone thinks we would try to run the tire intentionally. We have raced enough races to know that they will check these things, and for someone to think we would do this on purpose and cost ourselves a draw at an ASCS race is just ridiculous. Yes, the crew made a stupid mistake, but that was just what it was…a mistake. I’m sure we all learned a valuable lesson from it. Now I will come down off my soap box and continue……sorry. Our original plans were to stay at Knoxville and run the 410 on Saturday, but it was discovered late Thursday afternoon that the 410 needed some attention and would not be good to run it, so we decided to leave in the 360 and return to Eagle and try to salvage the rest of the week end. Jack finished 2nd in his heat and felt good about the car, in the feature he would start in the 6th row, and on a heavy fast track, would have his hands full running towards the front. His car was not handling like it needed to, seemed to be jumping all over, he was able to move forward somewhat, but was only able to get a 7th place finish. For some people they would be happy with a top 10 at Eagle, but anything less than a win for Jack at Eagle is a bit disappointing. It was agreed that some adjustments were needed, and maybe they had missed the set up on this particular night.
Tuesday we all headed north to I-90 Raceway in Harford, SD for an ASCOT race, it was our first time there, and Jack once again claimed a heat race win, that brings his total to 8 now, he made the draw, and drew the # 6 pill for a 3rd row starting position in the Feature. It looked like Jack was going straight to the front on the second restart, but was pinched off and would settle in and finish where he started, 6th. All in all it was a good night of racing, with the exception of some of us having to return to work, early the next day. Jack is enjoying his week long visit with Kathryn, who has been staying with us since the race at Knoxville last week end; she too made the trip up north and had a good run. Jack and Kathryn are busy preparing for a full week end of racing as they will both be at McCool Junction on Friday night for a Midwest ASCS show, and then back to South Dakota for another ASCOT race at the State Fairgrounds in Huron, SD. And then we might run Husets on Sunday, if our motor us ready…….so a busy, busy week end of racing. We are still awaiting the arrival of Wayne, he must be having a good time down under, hopefully he will return in time to help us prepare for the Nationals. In the mean time we will just keep working and trying to remember all the valuable things he has taught us. See ya at the track!!! |
